With the Actual Value Initiative (AVI) raising property taxes throughout the city, many Philadelphia homeowners are wondering exactly why and how this is happening. The main goal of AVI was supposed to be a reassessment of all the properties in the city at their current market value. The Actual Value Initiative reflects the value at which a house would be sold on the market today.

With the reassessment of property values due to the Actual Value Initiative, some lifelong residents are seeing their property taxes go up. Several assessments have tripled the property value, and some residents are worried they may have to leave their homes. The Actual Value Initiative (AVI) is a program which is supposed to accurately assess each property in the city for the value it is actually worth.

Despite the initial technical difficulties (with Suey Parker giving updates on Twitter), the panelist from various Asian Pacific Islander (API) communities held an hour-long conversation on cultural awareness and activism. Guerilla Ultima, run by Chef Robert Legget, is an American BBQ food truck in Philadelphia. Like any other mobile restaurant in the city, it makes appearances in different locations at different timings. Except on every Sunday, from 11 A.M. to 3 P.M., when the Guerilla Ultima is parked next to 2nd Street Brew House, a local Pennsport bar, for an interesting brunch experience.

Established in 2001, Sunshine Ministries' mission is to meet the needs of the impoverished children and families within and around the city of Hyderabad, India. Focusing on thirty-six economically challenged villages, The Good Shepherd School & Home offers educational opportunities and provides care to the needy children.

Fifteen miles from Hyderabad, India, 205 children from 10 villages need a reliable bus to get them to school safely. Living in Hatboro, PA, David & Abigail Babu founded the Good Shepherd School in 2001. When their first second-hand bus broke down in 2013, they had to personally finance another used bus for $16,670. Unfortunately, the bus requires frequent repairs. The rough roads and heavy usage adds wear on the tires and engine. When the bus is down for repairs, David & Abigail must hire local taxis to transport the children to-and-from school. If transportation is not provided, many families stop sending their children to school altogether. So far, $5,400 was raised through donations to pay off the bus loan. However, there's still a need to pay for gas, repairs and second bus to put less strain on the first. That’s why the goal of this fundraiser is $25,000. For every $1 you donate, $0.92 goes towards the bus fund. The children from these villages have no other access to education at such an affordable cost. Most are also the first generation in their families to go to school. The education they receive at Good Shepherd School from ages 2 to 15 gives them the tools to fight for their rights, promote change in their communities, and gain more opportunities for their future endeavors.
